Australian Three Days 2015 South Australia – Early Bird Entries Close December 31st

The 2015 Australian 3 Days will be back in South Australia from the 3rd – 6th April 2015. This traditional Easter orienteering event will begin with the Prologue in Jamestown using a newly mapped area within this historic township. The three bush days will be held on mallee areas about 30 km east of Jamestown and 50 km north of Burra. These areas are north of those used for the Australian Three Days in 2007 and have been newly mapped/re-mapped.

The 4 days event areas are

  • Prologue Event: Jamestown (township, school and parkland area)
  • Day 1: Wonna Creek – part of the existing Southern Bri-Glen – Northern Merridee with a new extension to west
  • Day 2: Northern Bri-Glen –Tundarri (new area)
  • Day 3: Mulga Valley (new area)

MalleeCreek

Bri-Glen and Merridee were first used for the Australian Three Days in 1990. The areas to be used on these maps have been remapped by Paul Hoopmann (Bri-Glen) and Adrian Uppill (Merridee). Paul has also mapped the new Mulga Valley map, and Adrian the Tundarri map and Merridee extension. The terrain is complex spur gully, with some very deeply incised and complex water courses on parts of the maps. Linear rocky outcrops are common. Mallee cover, limited light green and scattered open areas will make for fast running and fast km rates.

OA High Performance News December 2014

OA High Performance News December 2014

  1. JWOC Selection Criteria have been available for a while and nominations must be made to Chair of the Junior Selection Panel, Jan Hardy janhardy@iprimus.com.au  by 31st December 2014.

OA website link

http://www.orienteering.asn.au/get-involved/national-league/high-performance/selection-criteria/

The selectors would like to make the following announcement

“Henry McNulty, currently living and training in Sweden, has been provisionally pre-selected for the 2015 JWOC team, subject to demonstration of appropriate fitness levels and competition and time-trial performance in the months leading up to the JWOC races.”

  1. OA Squads 2015

For all those athletes who have been members of one of the four OA Squads during 2014, we are asking you to re nominate for the Squads for 2015.

This can be done using the nomination form for Current Squad Members. The online link to this has been sent to all athletes via AMP.

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1EMIy-PcnbGyO9FLdeixVE-48q-cyserEVKhetsNhUVU/viewform?c=0&w=1&usp=mail_form_link

This process will involve the nomination by the athlete, followed by the selectors making a judgement about the athlete’s performances during 2014 in achieving the necessary benchmarks for the squad. Based on this performance analysis the athletes will then be allocated to the appropriate squad.

For any athlete who has not been a member of a squad in 2014, you are invited to apply for squad membership by using the nomination form for New Squad Members. The link to the online form is

Reminder that a pre requisite for selection in any Australian Orienteering team (WOC, JWOC, World Cup, Bushrangers) is membership of a OA Squad in 2015.

  1. New Squad 2015– In January 2015 we will be inviting targeted junior athletes to become members of the Targeted Talented Athlete Squad (TTAS). We have identified talented orienteers in the 15, 16 and 17 years ages based on benchmark performances during 2014. This squad will be coached by Russell Blatchford, NSW. Russell has had many years of coaching experience and has worked with the NSW Junior Squad and Schools team for the last seven years. He is a school teacher (PD/H/PE) and will bring a broad knowledge and understanding of the needs of athletes in this targeted age group. This squad will provide a link for athletes between the state squad they are currently a member of and the other OA Squads. We are very conscious of the need to provide guidance and advice at this important age so that athletes can progress through the HP Pathway (FTEM) from T2- Talent Verification to T3- Practising and Achieving to T4-Breakthrough and Reward.

Check your vaccinations if travelling internationally for orienteering

It is advisable to check with your doctor well in advance on vaccinations recommended for international orienteering events in Europe and other countries.

The following message is from Australian company HL Pharma in relation to Tick Borne Encephalitis:

We have been contacted by some of your members who are taking part in the 2015 World Masters Orienteering Championship in Sweden. They have been enquiring about the Tick Borne Encephalitis Vaccine. We were informed one of your members contracted the viral disease whilst competing overseas last year, so we thought by writing to you with some information about vaccinating against this disease, you may wish to pass this onto your members attending the World Championship next year.

HL Pharma as a specialist pharmaceutical wholesaler supplying unregistered and unlicensed pharmaceuticals throughout Australia. We are aware of the need for the use of this vaccine for people travelling to specific areas of Europe so we keep stock of both the Adult and Junior Tick Borne Encephalitis Vaccines.

The Tick Borne Encephalitis vaccine is licensed in Europe, however, as there is no Tick Borne Encephalitis here in Australia, the manufacturer would not apply for a license here, therefore, it is an unlicensed product in Australia.

For someone to be vaccinated here in Australia, a clinic would need to apply for permission to supply. We can assist doctors in obtaining the correct permissions for supply and we are very happy to assist any of your members in regards to the Tick Borne Encephalitis vaccine.
